You are a hard working man that cares about what you are doing...Rare! Enjoying the updates.
I try to think about longevity on stuff there no sense in doing it and it fall apart in a couple years
This car is like eating an elephant. 1 bite at a time.
Exactly
My God, every time I watch one of your vids, I think to myself, it can’t get any worse, and then you uncover more. That car truly is the gift that keeps giving! Keep on fighting the good fight brother, you are doing great work!
I wish it would quit giving gifts! Lol 😆 there can't be too many more surprises left
Glad you pulled the engine. Looking like a viable project now
It was definitely having to come out I'll be glad when all this red plastic paint is gone
Incredible work. Love the journey
Glad you enjoyed it!
Think you said in the beginning that this was more parts car than restoration candidate. Maybe the car should have been given to the high school for a shop project - before it was crushed! Enjoy watching you bring its life back
Absolutely would had been a good parts car for a more sound car
Do high schools still have auto shops?
I graduated in '82 and we still had an auto shop, but the program had been drastically scaled down to essentially an auto maintenance program. The shop itself was torn down about 10 years after I graduated.
@@kennethsouthard6042 very few they don't want kids learning trades
You are correct! In the area where I grew up, people that went into the trades were treated like Beavis and Butthead.
I thought about going into the trades myself as I used to work on cars a lot in my teenage years and still do a lot of my own work today. However, I ended up going to college as an accountant and later into accounting software, where quite honestly, a lot of the same diagnostic principles are used.
My younger brother started out as a technician in a front-end shop, then moved on to the dealership then started his own shop.
Whenever I go to his shop and see the operation that he has put together and how well respected he is amongst both his customers and techs that work for him, I am beyond impressed.
I attended an auto tech school. We did actually worked on customers cars. That was ended because of liability and insurance concerns.
This reminds me of cutlass i worked on years ago. Every bolt, bracket, wire, rubber, moulding ,etc fought me tooth and nail. Many a wrench flew across the shop. Patience brother, have a good one.
Progress don't happen over night. But from re-watching the videos from the beginning, the transformation to its current condition is spectacular 👌. The owner should be proud of it when it's done. Daisy won't be so happy, she's not going to have her sleeping pad (the roof of the Mustang) anymore 😂.
😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hopefully it will give him many safe miles along with his grandkids
Speaking of integrity. You have more integrity than that car will ever have. You are willing to go the distance and do thing the right way no matter how time consuming and difficult. I'm so impressed that you just keep going no matter what the obstacle. Most people would have given up long ago.
I appreciate that! With any project you just have to keep plugging forward
Glad to see Mr. Floppy gone! Looking forward to the next video.
More to come!
Reminds me of a 69 Mach1 we worked on back in 77. No idea what was holding it together. It had to be from Michigan!!! Fenders. Doors. Rockers. Quarters. Floors. Trunk pan. More rust than car.
I had a 69 roadrunner that came from Michigan a few years back and it even wasn't as bad as this car
You do fantastic work!, look forward to seeing your next video.
Thank you very much!
At least you doing this the right way! Can't wait to see the next step on this project!
Definitely trying
Been watching this project since you started, first I want to say how much I'm enjoying everything that you're doing and I'm learning so much! Second, if I ever run into the guy who sold me my '65 convertible, I'm going to hug him for selling me such a solid car.
I'm glad there is stuff here you can learn from! And having a solid convertible is like winning the lotto!
Great work ethic. It's downhill from here.
Thanks
Boy, this car doesn't seem to have a single panel that under the paint isn't gobbed up and rusted through. I looked up a Dynacorn full fast back body and I have to think it would be cheaper than all the work you're doing. This series is perfect for anyone thinking of either of two things. Buying a classic without having someone like you or Kiwi inspecting it first or buying a "fixer upper" that just needs a little bit of body work.
You are right a repop shell would have been cheaper in the end. And if this car teaches anyone anything I hope it shows them to be 100% on what you buy
You called this project correctly in the beginning. Near as I can tell, the engine, radiator and the glass were just about the only things that were salvageable. I'm astounded by the hackery you've uncovered. You are a true discoverer!! 😁
You are correct there wasn't much good to combat all the bad
I’ve been watching this from the beginning from here in the UK. Your work is exemplary, your attention to detail is second to none and your skills of course aren’t limited to fantastic American muscle cars but any classic. I’m very lucky to own a very straight, unwelded 1975 Citroen that I spend my time avoiding the tin rot 😂😂
Thanks for the kind words, and congratulations on having a rot free Citroen that has to be hard to find over there!
@@HotRodGuyGarage yeah 👍 you’re spot on there
I love the professionalism you take with each step. Hacked up is a real understatement of what someone before you did on this car.
Thanks and hacked up is the nicest words I could use
GREAT call on pulling the engine/trans!!
I was kind of questioning this a week or two ago when you found all the body damage in the cowl and front half, and you hadn’t talked about pulling it then.
You’ve gone this far, can’t start half-assing anything now! This just amplifies how thorough you are!
I knew I was going to have to eventually I've just been putting it off like everything there's always been more surprises 😆 I can only handle so many at a time lol
Unfortunately he is doing it for love, right from the start he said told the owner it needed a new shell. Guy has no $. The owner is emotionally blackmailing this decent bloke.
@@StarlightWorkshop0z That’s kind of a rude thing to say, I disagree with your “emotional blackmail” comment. 🙄
At this point, he’s got soooooo much time and personal pride invested into this project, he’s not going to quit now. I’m sure (hoping) he’s got something worked out behind the scenes with the owner, after he got deeper into the project.
@angielover100 sorry I offended you. I've watched from start. The owner over payed for junk. Owner was told it was a wreck and needed a new body. The owner had no $ to do it right. So this great bloke took the job on to help basically knowing he will not make much from job. Understand?
He is aware every step of the way I've been trying to keep it as much of a budget project as I can for him
Keeps on giving feel for u Russ will be sweet when ur done cheers 🥂 😊
Hoping so 🤞
@@HotRodGuyGarage 😎🥂🔥
Getting close to needing an actual camera setup. Your content is really good.
Thanks it's in the future
That’s quite the project. Makes me feel a little better about my own money pit hobby car, seems its not so bad!! I like your approach and explaining, and Daisy, of course.
Absolutely, just keeps plugging along on your project and it will get there before you know it!
Keeps me watching to see what else is gonna show up. Keep up the good work. Enjoy these videos 👍
Thanks 👍 I hope some of the surprises slow down for a while
The amount of "don't care" this poor car received in its past is scary!
Absolutely so!
The snot box certainly throws up some surprises
Absolutely
I know it’s hard to stay positive on a project like this but your gaining ground everyday & eventually all the crap the other idiots did will be in the rear view mirror and the car is gonna look great and be a lot safer than it’s ever been.. 👍👍
Absolutely I want him to have a car he can be proud of
Hope the car's owner is feeding you well.
I've been trying to help him out what I can. so this is more like a minimum wage project on my end
Hi there , this car was a death trap, people who hacked this up should be jailed for attempted manslaughter, good job the owner brought it to you. As per your other videos on rhis car, its a pleasure to watch the care and skill in what your doing, Oh and Daisy, shes just ignoring you, thats cat bussiness. Greetings from John from the good old UK.
Absolutely John it was a death trap , hopefully it will make a good safe car in the end
Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Full marks to you for doing the engine bay, which currently looks horrendous! A huge amount of work, but very satisfying to see the progress.
I couldn't leave it looking like it did it's absolutely horrible!
Keep, going buddy! I, know it's aggravating!
Always! Just keep plugging forward
That's, "all" you can do. It'll, be over soon.
Looking good
Thanks
Nice.
Thanks!
That gloppy red brushed on crap I am looking forward seeing it be gone!! A nice clean engine compartment and fresh paint and all of the other repairs that will be done soon too.
That is gonna be one happy horse when it is done...as well as the owner too. Given the never ending surprises as to loose or half assed fastener uses I would check the rear end and shocks and brake stuff. I so hate seeing things jimmy rigged...but it warms my heart seeing the mess being repaired correctly and not done in a hurry. At least the engine paint will be easy if it is decided to be done...pretty hard to mismatch black🙂
I only wish i could send you a couple of cold ones through the internet...Lord knows you have sure earned them and continue to do so with each video🙂
I started stripping it today what's sad so far is I'm finding spray can asphalt undercoating under the paint so paint stripper isn't doing much but making a mess 😆
Looks like I'm in time to be first today
Thanks 👍
I had to go back and rewatch the first video on this car. Now that I've seen all this.... The car really didn't look that good in the first video. I guess at 200 yards, it would have looked good! Five months ago - We're just gonna reinforce some stuff and reconnect it. Today - Yeah.... we're rebuilding a car! It's just unbelievable. It comes in for brakes.... And eventually will leave after a second rebuild. I don't even think this was good enough to be a parts car, so you're doing an amazing job. it's also opened my eyes.... What's the worst thing that could be wrong with a car? new engine. New transmission..... Oh no, not at all . . There's this thing where everything BUT the engine is wrong.
The owner must be a fool. Unfortunately this decent bloke felt bad for him. The only real upside to it all is he is getting gd content and building a decent following..
It definitely wasn't great from the start, and just keeps snowballing deeper and deeper. Hopefully it will make a decent car in the end
As much as you are doing to this thing it will be a good car and with the other projects you have going on aside it I wonder how you do it all and still talk through it on the camera. Keep it up great ethics
It's definitely a challenge
Keep up the great work mate, the car will thank you 👍
That's the plan!
After all of the work you have put into this car it is now only good for additional content and a BIG A$$ class of what not to do when you redo an old car!!!!
Exactly
Your a hero. Very enjoyable to watch. Love the cat.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Your boss said she is off on Saturday you will be fussy good video
Thanks for watching
Almost have to be at rock bottom. You have it looking really good.
Hopefully 🤞
Im shocked the extractor didnt work. Not really 😂
Probably would had if it wasn't all cross threaded
Great video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Daisy is spending a bit too much time on QCing the roof! She is missing rust down low! And I'm glad it's you working on this project, what a cluster!
She has claimed that as the ultimate overseeing spot lol
Another unfortunate productive day 👍
Always!
great work!
Thanks for the visit
I can feel your frustration. With all the time and effort to do this hack job, they could have done it the right way for not much more work. Having to fix their screw up is what's taking so long. Some people just make you wonder. You're doing a great job and when this is finished, the owner will have a car worth owning. Til next time, have a great week.
Absolutely the amount of hack is what's eating a ton of time. Most people look at my 66 video and think that car is bad but it would have taken less time because nothing is hidden on it
Damn this car has become one of my favorite video series. Man you’re an inspiration
Thanks for the kind words
Hi from Michigan
Welcome to the channel
I'm not a body guy, but was thinking what if you used the whole new core support and didn't cut into with that seam at the bottom. My idea was to attach it to the top let it support that part then work out the bottom area and attach. That way your sort of slipping it in without removing the car from the stands.
How do you keep your cool !!!!!. What a hack job.
At this point im numb to the surprises
Slowly getting there on the surprise mustang
One piece at a time!
all work and little money
Absolutely, just keep plugging away
I may have missed it on earlier episodes. Was this car originally red? I’d consider a new color if it wasn’t a true red code. Has the owner approached the seller about about this scam. Unfortunately it’s probably an “as is” sale. Love your videos.
It was a original gold car , the sad thing is his color options are limited with the red and white interior it has
We used to call that making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I'm sure the guy that owns this is going to like it a LOT better than before. I can feel the frustration of finding more and more garbage.
Absolutely perfect description
You have a ton of patience!
I try
just wow, fix one find two more
Absolutely the way it's been , fix one find fifty more surprises
@@HotRodGuyGarage I started on 67 Mustang like that, finally gave up stripped it to shell. Had some welding done and slowly put it back together. Took 2 years of , off and on work
I feel your pain man. The car we built had a lot of hackery in it too. We had the floors replaced in it and it turned out that the floors we had cut out were welded on top of 2 older pans. Why is it so difficult for people to do things the right way? In so many of these cases, doing it wrong takes more effort.
I sure don't get it and it takes 3x the effort to undo the messes
If the owner ever decides to sell this car, he's got extensive proof that it's solid. Probably far more solid than half the little Mustang coupes out there.
Absolutely
The deeper you dig, the more dirt you'll find.
@@JosephPercel it never ends
I believe you said this car is a 1965 probably not a one owner ,it probably sat outside ,some flipper owned this too probably. You’re going to make this car nice again. The ppl that think this should have been a parts (I don’t think so)So far how much sheet metal was put in this car. Some shops strip and inventory the car did it and order sheet metal but that process cost more than this process. The true flipper cleanup the body panel makes the body look nice and bad structural unibody part they put body putty on it to make it look good. I ll keep watching your video you are making this car nice. Thanks
Yes it's a 65, between the hack job before and what I've re replaced there's probably 30% of the original car there. From a cost stand point it should had been a parts car more from it being bent out of square I spent a ton of time getting it to relax back into the factory measurements
Man you got a lot done this video. What’d your customer decide on the roof?
Still TBD on the roof
At regular retail rates,(parts and labor) this would run how much up to this point? 35k? When finished, six figure total bill?
I'm going to do a video towards the end but a project like this in a large shop could easily exceed 75k+
The areas of rust that are under the black areas... could that be POR-15 being applied previously? Kind of looks like it to me but don't have first hand experience with it.
There isn't anything that was on this any higher quality then Rust-Oleum
@HotRodGuyGarage i should have assumed as such. This car has been a nightmare, but you have turned it into i believe a must watch event for anyone looking to do a restoration.
@@gregkiserphotography I'll be glad when all the hacked up mess is gone
Well I’m guessing that when you get to doing the project one you picked up for yourself you will know your way round it blindfolded. It seems that there was no getting around the amount of work that has cropped up in this car because nothing has been done properly by the noodles that worked on it before. I can’t help but wonder how many death traps covered in lip stick are out there?? See you soon HRG.
Probably a lot are hidden just like this one
I like 67-68 mustangs
The jack leg work a person has to deal with when working on old cars.
Absolutely
The cross member on my 69 has to be replaced with the core support. No choice. The cross member is rotted out because of the battery. So both fender aprons and the core support with the cross member. I have all of that stuff. I just have to remove the bad stuff first.
It definitely happens, surprised this one is so solid in the rails
Congrats!!!🎉
I just bypassed 10 other hi tone channels to watch you. This owner got absolutely hoodwinked. The only benefit to you im guessing is you are gathering views and followers i hope.
Thanks for that, the more engagement on these the more I can help him but I'm sure the return from the videos will never match what I've been knocking down this bill. I just hate when people get taken through the wringer like he did when he bought this thing
I know mate. Sorry im not in a position to donate money. But i always coment and like, that hopefully helps the algorithms for you.your a gd man Charlie Brown. @HotRodGuyGarage
@@StarlightWorkshop0z thanks for that it helps spread the videos and hopefully keep someone else from buying dolled up junk
A real mess. Even that engine and transmission is suspect. No dowel pins means there is a misalignment with the bellhousing.
There stuck in the bell housing
Once you start it just keeps going and going....
Absolutely when trying to turn a corn cob into a silk purse
Nice work. I think the engine needs to be re painted the original 60's Ford blue.
'65 Mustang OE engine color was black, blue for Mustang engine was introduced for the '66 Model year.
It would look better blue but wouldn't be correct
@dynomax7497 oh ok. I did not know this. I'm in Australia and all our local built Fords had blue engines. I've learnt something today.
@@HotRodGuyGarage I've learnt something today . 👍
@@I.Live4oldcars.prospecting I’m in New Zealand, neighbour! I’m restoring a ‘65 Mustang and didn’t know about the engine color until I started my research. That’s one of the things I love about our hobby, learning something new every day 😃
Would it be better just to replace the entire front end? Yea, I know very expensive.
There's still good metal it's just coated with garbage but yes if it was going to be a show car it would probably be best
Too bad the owner didn't want a custom built car. You would have made him two new cars by now.
Possibly
and you videos continue to reinforce why I would stay away from 60's Mustangs, Cougars, Camaros and Firebirds. Cars that should have been crushed long ago are kept merely for their potential to be flipped onto unsuspecting ill-informed consumers who should stay away from classic car ownership. great work on your part - too bad it's just a common 65 sedan and not something more special given all the work you've put into it. I suspect you'll find more rust or botched repairs in the engine compartment after the paint stripper
I'm sure the surprises aren't over yet as much as I hope they are
@@HotRodGuyGarage Wasn't there some issues with front steering/suspension system?
Maybe that's coming up?
Yes there some issues underneath that will Have to be addressed with the support cross member
As great content, this is the owner probably would have been better off money Wise finding a clean, fastback shell and doing a full swap for using this car as a donor.
Would had been better to start with a repop shell
@@HotRodGuyGarage oof that's how you can tell the money is getting real
@@freyja4954 me like him only keep up with the weekly totals I'm going to add it up at the end
Did the owner actually look at this car before purchasing or buy it sight unseen that engine bay is a big red flag discussing I have had six early Mustang's over the years here in Australia and have never had been stuck with a car like that it pays to look real hard and or get someone that knows like yourself to inspect lucky your such a good tradesman otherwise this car wouldn't make it back.
He bought it in person, blinded by red paint and a new interior
It was definitely a horrible hack job it will be a cherry of a car when you're done
Absolutely hope so
You could title this series ”But…yeah.” Lots of But..yeah moments as you try to explain all the boogered up stuff.
Basically could
If you didn't know how to cuss, that car would teach you in a hurry.
Absolutely
Disregard my last comment.
